“This testing series of Virtual Challenges have each provided immense excitement for our school but the recent New York Marathon for me has to have been the most thrilling. It provided an opportunity to interact with my class and enjoy a shared experience of enthusiasm, determination and achievement during a period of teaching like no other. The challenge laid down and the healthy competition provided, saw our staff and children desperate to get outside, get active and be involved. Waiting for the daily results to be uploaded was nerve wracking but simply added to the overall experience and fun! Cannot wait for all future Challenges!”
— Shiplake Primary School - Year 2 Teacher
“Thank you very much for running this challenge. Whilst raising money for our PTA it also helped to significantly reduce the number of journeys to and from school by car. The children also really enjoyed participating in it. We look forward to taking part in more of your events in the future.”
— Robert Heilbuth, Chair Kidmore End School Association
“This challenge helped me bring my class together at a time when they had to stay apart. They remembered they were part of a team, part of a school and really engaged well with the event. The recording of distances was extremely easy and the daily update of results was very motivating. Breaking the competition down into different categories and age groups really allowed everyone a chance of success somewhere. Taking part was fun but walking away with some silvers and bronzes for our school in our first entry has been such a boost for all who walked or ran and for those who have only been able to cheer from the (online)pavements.”
— Strathmore Primary School - Year 3 Teacher
“What a great event. Having some friendly competition really helped us to push ourselves on our walks and to get out and explore the countryside, knowing that every km would count! Thank you for organising it and for the daily updates on positions - it made for an exciting week!”
— Shiplake Primary School - Year 5 Parent
“Fabulous virtual event, great motivation for the whole school. It kept us motivated and out and about in these strange times. Loved seeing the evening scores and then telling the children in the morning.”
— Valley Road Primary School - Year 3 Parent
“So impressed with these 5/6 year old children, I think most parents were surprised at actually how far the children could walk. Fun, all inclusive event. Really well organised. Very efficient online loading system, one two clicks and your distances were entered, super easy even for busy parents :) well done to the organiser.”
— Valley Road Primary School - Year 1 Parent
“This event has been more important than I initially realised. It wasn’t a race it provided my class and school with a reason to get out with their families and walk for a purpose. To hopefully take their mind of this awful time we are in right now. It has made us feel like a class/school again as we walk together to get our names further up the leaderboard. Thank you for your hard work in providing the break down graphs which made it easier to explain to the children. Look forward to next event.”
— Strathmore Primary School - Year 1 Teacher
We had a wonderful time doing walks and my little girl is asking me every day if we going to do a walk today! Muddy puddles were the best this week!
— Kidmore End Primary School - Reception Parent
At first the idea of walking home from school was met with grumbling and feet stomping from my two children but actually, we found the time spent walking home helped them unwind and de stress after school and we actually had good conversations about their day, without arguments! I think they secretly really enjoyed it.
— Kidmore End Primary School - Year 4 & Year 6 Parent
This Children’s Challenge inspired us to try cycling to and from school...(not an insignificant distance for us!). It provided us with a context, and the competitive nature meant that we took part every day on the dates set. We are now thinking we might try and do it as many days of the week as we possibly can from now on! Quite a challenge for us grown ups too!
— Kidmore End Primary School - Year 5 & Year 2 Parent
Sophie enjoyed being part of the overall score for her school! She’s in reception and was excited to be part of a school challenge already. We were also able to walk with some new friends who also joined in (and hopefully continue to do so!).
— Kidmore End Primary School - Reception Parent
We thoroughly enjoyed our long morning walk to school this week. A 40 minutes walk instead of a 6 minutes drive allowed us to start our day in a nice, relaxed way, chatting all the way to school.
— Robert Piggott Junior School - Year 5 Parent
We loved walking to school every day. It was far, took us 35-40mins but I don’t think we’ll be stopping the great start to the day this challenge has encouraged
— Robert Piggott Junior School - Year 3 Parent
We have loved this friendly fun nudge to leave for school a little earlier, and get outside, and get some fresh air ready for the mornings lessons. A great start and finish to the day, whilst raising money for the school too.
— Shiplake Primary School - Year 4 Parent
The Children’s Challenge is a great way to get the whole family involved in outdoor activities. The motivation the challenges create is brilliant and we all love getting involved. The time spent walking to and from school also provided a great opportunity to talk about the kids days with no interruptions.
— Shiplake Primary School - Year 6 Parent
It was easy to get the kids up and out walking to school. They loved the daily challenge, no matter the weather, there is no doubting the exercise and fresh air had a positive affect on their day ahead. A great initiative that has inspired us to do more – thank you Children’s’ Challenge!
— Shiplake Primary School - Year 2 & Year 5 Parent
This has been such a hit with my kids! I thought I’d have to drag them out but they’ve thoroughly enjoyed it!
