The Children's Challenge was initially created to organise highly memorable weekend family adventures under the auspices of Primary School Expedition Societies, ‘owned’ by schools but powered entirely by The Children's Challenge. No resources are required from participating schools and all Expeditions are organised and undertaken with no teacher involvement. The family and community participation is unique and clearly differentiates the offering from activities such as a school led, pupil only residential trip. Participating primary schools could receive a significant OFSTED benefit.

The benefit to both a school and to a family is magnified when joint expeditions are undertaken with other local primary schools. This helps build communities within a town, as well as just within a school.

In essence, schools are just offering their families the opportunity to sign up for an adventurous weekend away with all their friends. It is a unique proposition and tremendous goodwill is generated from all who participate.

In addition to community expeditions, under the auspices of the Expedition Societies, parents and pupils have also received first aid training.

The Expedition Societies are financially supported by corporates that receive tremendous goodwill from the local community and accrue tremendous ESG benefits.

Expedition Societies

Relationships past (pre covid) & present:

During the latest Virtual Challenge, parents were asked if they thought an Expedition Society would be a great addition to their school. The results were telling with 1,306 parents being either neutral, in agreement or in strong agreement. Only 4% of the 1,364 parents surveyed were less positive.

It would be great to have an expedition society at our school…

It is our belief that the creation of an Expedition Society, to the benefit of all the stakeholders of a school, is compelling.

Corporate Partners

The Children’s Challenge works closely with many corporates at both a local and national level receiving both services and funding support. Corporates are able to pick the primary schools, at the heart of their communities where they would like Expedition Societies to be created. By providing sponsorship funding the corporate directly reduces the cost of the Expeditions that their communities undertake. The Expedition Societies create a huge amount of goodwill and are an ideal way for corporates to support both their employees and local communities.
