What a final day! What a competition! Congratulations to all the schools and year groups that took part. It’s been great fun and a real fight to the wire. Irrespective of who won or who just got pipped at the post, the real victory is spending some quality time as a family at the beginning and end of the school day. However, this was a competition after all….

After an amazing 5 day battle between Shiplake and Kidmore End, Shiplake managed to remain in the lead with a huge 149km final day, just ahead of an incredible 138km from Kidmore End. Robert Piggott were consistently strong and fully deserve their 3rd place. The final distances for the top 3 were Shiplake - 498km; Kidmore End - 457km; Robert Piggott - 251km. Shiplake will receive a year’s subscription to The Week Junior for their efforts. Well done!

On an average distance per school pupil basis, the winning order remains the same with Shiplake at 3.25km, Kidmore End at 2.48km and Robert Piggott at 1.34km. Shiplake will receive a 6 month subscription to National Geographic Kids to sit alongside The Week Junior in their library. Thoroughly deserved!

The total distance travelled per year group is where Kidmore End have their revenge with their Year 4s dominating proceedings with a fantastic 158km. Shiplake Year 6 mounted an extremely strong charge at the end but still fell 30km short of the indomitable Kidmore End Year 4s. Shiplake Year 4s came in a well deserved 3rd place and fought hard all the way to the end. Well done Kidmore End for winning a 1 day ‘Taster Sail’ courtesy of Sunsail for up to 5 people worth £695. An amazing prize for an incredible walking machine.

The final prize of an amazing mountain experience with the brilliant Mick Jones at Summit Mountain Skills goes to the winner of our average distance per year group pupil category - Shiplake Primary Year 2s. The Year 2s travelled a monumental 30km on the final day and generated an average distance of 6.55km per pupil, just managing to pip Kidmore End Year 4s with an average of 5.64km. Shiplake Year 6s finished 3rd with an average distance of 4.74km.  This was an incredibly closely fought category and a huge well done must go to all the year groups up and down the league table that fought all the way to the line.

Finally, and after much deliberation, the winner of our photography competition is shown below. The photograph epitomizes everything that the Children’s Challenge stands for, namely - children pushing their boundaries whilst sharing amazing experiences with their parents. Something that both parties should cherish for many year to come.
